Nursing Simulation Labs and Skills Labs
As a student in Harding University’s accelerated Bachelor of Science in nursing program, you’ll learn critical nursing concepts as part of the online component of our ABSN curriculum. However, you can’t become a confident nurse without hands-on experience. You’ll gain that experience during an important aspect of the ABSN nursing track: nursing simulation labs and nursing skills labs.
Together with instructors and classmates, you’ll work on developing your nursing skills and clinical judgment using high-tech medical manikins and high-tech health care equipment at our location in Rogers, Arkansas. Here, you’ll also gain confidence in your developing critical nursing skills before performing them in a real-world clinical environment.
Skills Labs
Our accelerated BSN skills labs emulate the hospital setting and feature all the state-of-the-art medical equipment and supplies expected in that environment. You’ll also utilize realistic medical manikins, which eliminates the fear of harming a human patient while you are learning. In addition to the nursing theory knowledge learned from the online portion of our ABSN program, you’ll use this facility and its tools to master various nursing skills, such as:
- Holistic head-to-toe assessment
- Nasogastric (NG) tube insertion
- Blood pressure and heart rate monitoring
- Wound care
- Catheterization
Simulation Labs
Another key element of our hands-on curriculum is putting practiced nursing skills into action during nursing simulation labs. Simulation labs offer a risk-free environment for students to explore patient care scenarios that challenge their critical thinking, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
During the ABSN track, students engage in mock clinical scenarios that focus on specific learning objectives. This means taking on the roles of a patient, family member, doctor or nurse to gain perspective from all sides of a given situation, thus learning how to problem solve and communicate on the job.
During this portion of your ABSN education, the goal isn’t to get everything perfect the first time. Instead, nursing simulation labs are a safe space to make mistakes and then learn from them.
In fact, each simulation is followed by engaging debriefing sessions with instructors and classmates for reflection on the experience and learning from it without judgement.
